βThe Employment Division has the mandate to grant work permits to non-citizens to allow them to work in Mauritius. According to section 3(1) of the Non-citizens (Employment Restriction) Act 1973 as subsequently amended, a non-citizen shall not engage in any occupation in Mauritius for reward or profit or be in employment in Mauritius unless he has a valid permit.
The Work Permit Unit is responsible for the issuance of permits to foreign workers to enable them to work in Mauritius. There are three types of permits given to foreign workers:
> Work Permit (Granted to non-citizens for employment in Mauritius)
> Certificate of Exemption (Granted for Government Projects employing expatriate workers, Embassies, Universities of Mauritius amongst others)
> Employment Permit (Expatriate married to Mauritian)
β> Special Work Permit (For victims of Trafficking in Person)
