TRAINING PROGRAMMES

​​​Youth Employment Programme

Since February 2015, the Youth Employment Programme has been under the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations, targeting unemployed youth aged 16 to 35 by providing placements and training opportunities in public and private organisations. It aims to equip participants with essential workforce skills up to two years of training or placement, while also assisting employers in meeting their manpower needs.

              a)  Eligibility Criteria
                           Mauritian youth should: -
  •                                      > Be aged between 16 and 35 years
  •                                      > Be unemployed for a minimum period of 30 days
  •                                      > Hold an academic qualification at HSC level with a minimum of pass in 2 A levels and/or   Diploma or Degree
  •                                      > Be registered as unemployed at the Employment Information Centre (EIC)
  •                                      > Registered on the YEP Database

              b)   Monthly Stipend paid to trainees

               50% of the monthly stipend is refunded to private employers.

               For the public sector, Government funds the full stipend.

Candidates are required to register at the nearest Employment Information Centre to obtain an Occupational Classification Number (OCN) and complete the online registration form on the Youth Employment Programme website at www.yep.mu .

Employers must also register on the Youth Employment Programme website at www.yep.mu .



Women Back To Work Programme (WBTWP)

The Women Back to Work Programme, launched in June 2015, supports unemployed women aged 30 to 60 in rejoining the workforce and offering a two-year placement with a monthly stipend of Rs 10,575. Additionally, the Ministry provides specialised training through the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) in various fields such as hairdressing, beauty therapy, bakery, early childhood education, elderly care, flower arrangement, gardening, and basic IT skills to further enhance women's employability and economic participation.

                          a)  Eligibility Criteria:
  •                                 > Unemployed women
  •                                 > Aged 30 and above but below 60
  •                                 > Be registered as unemployed at the Employment Information Centre (EIC)
  •                                 > Be registered on the Women Back to Work Programme Database
         
                          b)  Stipend: Rs 10,575/month for placement and a one –off stipend of Rs 10,575 at the end of successful course completion

Candidates must register at the nearest Employment Information Centre to obtain an Occupational Classification Number (OCN) and complete the online registration form on the Women Back to Work Programme website at www.backtowork.mu .

Employers are required to register on the Women Back to Work Programme website at www.backtowork.mu and submit their requests to the WBTWP Secretariat via email at mlhrdt@backtowork.mu .

Trainee Engineer Scheme (TES)
The Trainee Engineer Scheme (TES) aims to facilitate engineering graduates in qualifying for registration with the Council of Registered Professional Engineers (CRPE) of Mauritius, thereby enabling them to function independently as fully qualified engineers. Administered with the support of the Institute of Engineers (Mauritius), the scheme organises comprehensive two-year training programs tailored for each graduate's field of expertise as recommended by the Council of Registered Professional Engineers (CRPE).

                   a)     Eligibility Criteria
  •       >  Candidates should be holders of a degree in fields such as Civil, Electrical & Electronics, and Mechanical, recognized by the Council of Registered Professional Engineers of Mauritius as qualifying for registration under Ordinance No. 49 of 1965, as amended by Ordinance No. 9 of 1967.
  •      > Candidates have to complete two years’ practical training prescribed by the Council to qualify for registration under the above-mentioned Ordinance. Applicant shall produce an Eligibility Certificate from CRPE.

                  b)     Stipend: The monthly stipend to graduates in Engineering under the training scheme is Rs 26,050
Candidates must register on the Mauritius Jobs website at https://mauritiusjobs.govmu.org/ and complete the online registration form.
Qualified applicants are then required to visit the Training Programme Unit, Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations, Level 8, Victoria House, Port Louis, in person to submit their application.

 Dual Training Programme

The Dual Training Programme (DTP), which is being implemented by the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations since 2015 in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC), is a mix of practical on-the-job training and classroom studies. The Dual Training Programme integrates practical on-the-job training with classroom studies, creating a dynamic learning environment that directly meets the needs of companies while mitigating labour market mismatches. Courses under this programme are precisely tailored to fulfil specific employer requirements, developed collaboratively by industry associations and training institutions to meet accreditation standards set by the Tertiary Education Commission

                    a)     Eligibility Criteria
  •                          > Registration of trainees on Mauritius jobs: https://mauritiusjobs.govmu.org/  
  •                          > Trainees shall satisfy the prerequisites of the course as specified by the Employer/Awarding Body.
  •                          > Trainees shall not be subject to any possible conflict of interest (parental/personal relations or ex-employees).
  •                          > Trainees should not have benefitted from any other placement/training schemes for more than 6 months.

                  b)       Stipend: The HRDC pays a monthly stipend of Rs 6,000 to each trainee during the duration of the course.

Training And Placement Of Persons With Disabilities Programme

Mauritius, as a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, has introduced the Training and Placement of Persons with Disabilities Programme (TPPWD) in 2023 to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the workforce, offering placements in both the public and private sectors with a monthly stipend and travel allowance.

The programme allows for placement of Persons with disabilities in the public sector for a period of one year.

                  a)     Eligibility Criteria

                                Persons with Disabilities registered with the Training and Employment of Persons with Disabilities Board (TEDPB).

                  b)     Stipend

                                Trainees placed under this programme are paid a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000 and transport allowance of Rs 1,000.

Trainee â€‹And Land Surveyor Scheme​

​To address the shortage of Land Surveyors delaying local projects, the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations launched the Trainee Land Surveyor Scheme (TLSS) in 2023-2024, providing young graduates with a two-year supervised practical training to qualify for professional registration under the Land Surveyors Act.

                 a)      Eligibility Criteria
                            
         Candidates should hold a Diploma in Land Surveying from the University of Mauritius or such other qualifications as may be prescribed in accordance with the Land Surveyors Act.

                  b)      Stipend: Rs 17,045 / month and refund of bus fares.​
